So brutal and sudden your appearance and exit
Plucking our beloved with you.
Leaving behind a flood of tears-
Spouseless wives and husbands.
Death how truly capable you are
Of obliterating that argument…
So grand and insolvable at the time,
But, how petty…
How childish, the thought of it now.
You bring dark clouds…
Heavy with sadness,
Bitterness and confusion…
Leaving us all begging for second chances…
A second chance to be a daughter,
A second chance to be a mother,
Death- what audacity you have to drown shared dreams?
How dare you assert yourself in between our plans?
Leaving us at cross-roads.
Cross-roads at the highway of our lives…
With all roads now leading to abandoned dreams.
Leaving us contemplating our colourless life.
They say we should pray for time.
Time, can you hear us?
How long will you take to heal our brokenness?
How long will we be reminded of our departed loved one?
For how long will we keep wiping our tears?
Death, I refuse to live at your grave side
Death, you have taught me
The value of living while still living.
The hardest lesson to learn without you.
So, we will pray harder for time.
Time, hear our prayer.
